The vision of One Child Matters goes back to 1954 when missionaries Mark and Huldah Buntain arrived in India to begin more than three decades of ministry among the poor and needy. God was moving, and the ministry was incorporated as Mission of Mercy in 1974. In the year following Mark Buntain’s death in 1989, Mission of Mercy came under the leadership of Bethesda Ministries, who committed to provide administrative and financial support to the organization. During the 90s, Mission of Mercy began to expand beyond India into Southeast Asia, including Cambodia and Bangladesh. That expansion continued into Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
In 2012, Mission of Mercy changed its name to One Child Matters in order to better reflect its core ministry heartbeat – to proclaim the message of the grace and redemption available through Jesus Christ while meeting the practical needs of the poor, one child at a time. Today, One Child Matters is working in 16 of the poorest countries in the world, bringing hope, truth, life, love, and mercy to 40,000 children through child sponsorship.
One Child Matters in seeking a Ministry Representative to develop relationships and networks with churches, businesses, and organizational leaders, educating them about the needs of children in developing countries with a goal of building long term partnerships, child sponsorships, and other funding for the ministry. He/She will speak on behalf of One Child Matters, as well as engage leaders so that they will speak on behalf of One Child Matters to their respective audiences, resulting in long term partnerships, acquisition of child sponsorships, and other financial support for the ministry.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leadership and vision casting – uniting people around a shared purpose/cause. Their background will likely include work experience in Christian denominations, networks, or large churches. They must have a proven track record of achieving goals and exceeding expectations, a high-degree of decision-making skills and initiative, and be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit that’s always seeking to improve. They will demonstrate knowledge of church history, the Bible, and theology, and understand the difference between major Christian denominations. They will have likely had experience serving overseas either as a full-time missionary or in multiple short-term mission trips, and will be comfortable with international travel. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of commitment to serve One Child Matters by properly stewarding the day to day operations required to maintain excellent relationships with current and future partnership churches and organizations.
While the new Ministry Representative may choose to work out their home in their current location, they would also be welcome to work out of the One Child Matters offices in Colorado Springs, CO. Colorado Springs is situated near the base of one of the most famous American mountains, Pikes Peak, at the eastern edge of the Southern Rocky Mountains. With its proximity to world-class recreation, excellent schools, and affordable housing, Colorado Springs consistently ranks at the top of a variety of national and international lists of best places to live.
